I
was asked to write a few words about what the market for big
bust videos was like in the early 1990's. But for me it goes
back much further than that! I was a lot younger when I started
to watch naked ladies. It was well before the 90's. Back then
I'd visit peep show parlors, feeding quarters into machines
chosen solely on the basis of the pictures on the 8-millimeter
film boxes hung on the wall under flickering fluorescent tubes.
Rubbing shoulders with other men, without any of us ever acknowledging
the presence of the others. Trying to find a film that featured
a big set of tits back then was mostly a matter of luck. This
was before the introduction of silicon, before the use of implants,
before any Tom, Dick or Harriet could produce and resell a video
with their next door neighbor, $20 worth of VHS tapes and a
web site.
There were a very few well-built performers who appeared in
these loops and I would search for the names I knew: Lisa
DeLeeuw, Sue Nero, some others. Sitting in a small cramped
booth. Watching John Holmes slide the sausage to some anonymous
woman, wondering what it was like to carry that much meat
between my legs. Hoping to catch sight of a good sized pair
of tits bouncing and jiggling before my quarters ran out.
And if I did stumble across some well-built young woman, the
chances were that I would never see her again. Performers
would shoot a loop, or a couple of loops, cash the check to
meet the next rent payment, and then drop out of the business.
But technology never stands still. As video became more common,
things began to change. First the peepshow parlors dropped
the noisy projectors with the fraying, endlessly-looping films.
Then stores started popping up that carried videos for RENT!
And full-length porn flicks that were still shot on film were
soon dubbed onto video. But slowly, the producers of the loops
and movies were forced aside by the growing number of people
that were shooting straight onto video. As they were pushed
aside, customers such as myself gained some things, and lost
others.
The films, even the loops I spoke of, often featured a plot
with scripted dialogue, well-appointed sets, and experienced
performers. Some were actually trained thespians! Paul Thomas,
one of the more active male studs in the porn industry and
later a director/producer of porn, had a speaking role in
the film version of "Jesus Christ, Superstar"!
What we lost was plot, story line, budgets, dialogue, casts
that exceeded three or four people, and any pretension to
taste. Remember that when "Deep Throat" and "Behind the Green
Door" were released they were often screened in respectable
movie theaters and attended by dating couples!
What we gained was a much larger selection of material to
choose from. Now porn has come home. Going to a movie theater
to see porn is a thing of the past. If you watch porn, you
watch it in the intimacy of your own home, on your own TV
screen.
And if I sound like I'm disappointed with how things have
changed, well, that's not entirely true. We have recently
experienced what I bet will be referred to as the Golden Age
of Big Boobs! Starting in the mid 1980's and continuing through
today, those who admire the well-developed bosom have had
a rich and varied group of performers to choose from. From
tease to full-on porn, there is something for everyone. We
no longer have to depend upon fickle Mother Nature to bless
a young woman, and then hope that that young woman will grow
up and choose to share her spectacular abundance with the
world.
From
Melissa Mounds, who started the slim-but-stacked, artistically-enhanced-with-implants
onslaught, to Norma Stitz, we have had a lot to choose from!
Remember Melissa Mounds? She magically went from D-cups to
something much larger, more rounded, and much more prominent.
She changed her name to Melissa Mounds, and introduced the
magic of silicon implants to thousands of amazed men in strip
joints and on video. She was the first "enhanced" model I
ever knew of. You can still order "Introducing Melissa Mounds"
from Napali Video. I think it was her first video after the
surgery. Another change was that she no longer did porn! She
had made several boy/girl and girl/girl appearances. That
stopped once she became Melissa. Made more money stripping
and performing in solo "glamour" and tease videos.

After Melissa, the flood gates opened. And not every performer
who went under the knife was shy about getting it on in front
of the camera. Starry Knights became Lisa Lipps. Tommy Ta-Ta's
had a second (or third?) operation and renamed herself Wendy
Whoppers. Veteran Lynn Lemay got enlarged and kept on keeping
on for several years. Bunny Bleu disappeared from porn for
several years. When she came back she was larger - but just
as eager and demonstrative as ever.
A whole host of house dancers scrimped and saved to buy big
enough tits to become feature dancers, and then went on tour
or in front of the camera. Tiffany Towers did both, and, I
think, did both better than most of her competition. There
have been others too numerous to mention.
In the late 80's and early 90's it was exciting to pick up
a copy of Gent or Juggs or Score to see
if there was a new face to be seen. If so, chances were that
that face --and the body beneath it-- would soon be available
on video! If you saw someone you liked, you could start to
save your money to buy the video when it became available.
Which is another thing that has changed since the 80's and
early 90's: the price of our preferences. The first big tit
video that I bought from H & S Sales cost (brace yourself!)
US$69.95! If you ordered three titles at once you could save
all of US$10.00 per title!
The porn industry is currently inundated with "amateur" videos.
The girl and the boy next door get it on in front of a $200
video camera and sell the video for US$19.95. Even the girl
next door can (and might) get a boob job. And the chances
are, she'll show up in a video shot by her "ex-husband" or
old boyfriend, and the tape will be sold on the Internet!
So things have changed, for better and worse. There is a flood
of poorly lit, badly photographed, cheaply produced videos
featuring two or more people fucking. Lots of video tape has
been wasted (IMHO) recording the sexual activities of people
so ugly that they themselves wouldn't pay to watch it! There
are also plenty of tapes featuring attractive, stacked young
women exposed in almost clinical fashion. Busty beauties who
are filmed in close-up while they spread their vaginas, leaving
out no detail and also omitting any sense of fun, excitement,
or sensuality.
But there is also some great video. Professionally made videos
featuring lovely women (and occasionally a good-looking guy,
but who cares?) with great bodies are still available. Yes,
we have lost some classic performers recently. The "retirements"
of Busty Dusty, April Chest, and others are cause for sadness.
But there are new performers coming along. Chelsea Charms
may be one of the all-time greatest if she chooses to continue
to make videos, dance and do photo shoots. Teddi Barrett,
of whom I have only just learned, claims to have made over
200 tapes. I've seen only one and it isn't really well-produced,
but she has a great pair of tits, and she seems to enjoy sharing
herself with the camera. I'm looking forward to seeing what
Napali does with her in their soon-to-be-released tape.
And I no longer have to plunk down my hard-earned money blindly.
Before I order a tape, I can hope to read about it in JustMeMike's
column in R&D. Or see a comment on one of the many
bulletin boards or chat rooms that are on the Internet. Things
have changed since the mid-80's. Prices are down; selection
is up.
Perhaps most important, there is a growing awareness of a
community of people who share my interest. People who, like
me, love to watch naked, supremely stacked women cavort, for
our pleasure, on the small screen where we live. People who
read about big-busted women on the Internet and choose to
plop down the money to order a video, a magazine, or a book.
I wonder what we'll see in the next millennium? I'm looking
forward to looking!
