Backstage Sector Overhead Views

The Backstage Concourse
- Side View - Floor Assignments - Closeup of Central - Closeup of Gardens -

The first reasonably complete description was Deja Voodoo's first Guide in 131660, which is also a good statement of purpose for the Backstage -- that plus the newer 140199 (and other episodes) gives us ...

One of these days this will be updated to reflect Dabbler's details of the Bar & Grille! It's coming, it's coming...

The sizes of the three areas are complete guesses, but the size of the backstage as a whole is to scale (50 yards x 1/4 mile).

Hilbert's Backstage Hotel: building at the western end of the Concourse catering mainly to Characters shelved Backstage, though Authors are permitted to patronize it as well on condition of good behavior. The Backstage Troubleshooters' Office is located there. Besides the hotel building itself, Hilbert's includes the Hotel Grounds and Docks north of the Ringwall, and the Hotel Gardens in the Concourse. David Hilbert, the manager, also manages the Concourse's residential Upper Levels for Authors and Models.

The Hotel Gardens: described in 141347. For more detail, see the Closeups page.

Hotel Grounds: A large open area, containing recreational areas for the Hotel. These include tennis courts and swimming pools, among other features.

Dead Actresses Area: a living memorial, featuring appearances from actresses no longer with us. Described in 147087. This area contains some residences for the actresses, as well as gardens which include a croquet lawn.

Backstage Central: Where Sid Russell, Keeper of the Backstage, hangs out. This area is described in detail in 131660 and 140199. For more detail, see the Closeups page.

The Old Wizard's Bar & Grill: building at the eastern end of the Concourse catering mainly to Authors, though Characters are also welcomed there as guests and (often) victims. Includes, in addition to the Bar & Grill building itself, Shanghai Harbor north of the Ringwall. Run by the Old Wizard, former proprietor of Spells 'R' Us.

The Service Sector
- Side View - Floor Assignments -

Below the Cemetery lies the secret Vault, where dangerous items are stored. The Vault is accessed through the graves of the Cemetery, but only through the graves of your dead alternate versions.

The Cemetery and the Vault approaches are described in 142160, along with a description of the Cemetery's purpose.

Additional description was given in 355384, 357013, and 357014 which added more detail to the main level of this sector:

Below is a diagram of the first sub-basement (Level B2), to show how the Infinity Highway (which runs underground in this Sector according to 145073) splits to go around the Vault (according to 145038). (It's a compromise, I admit.)

Below is a diagram of Upper Level 11, the lowest level of the Orphan Episode Asylum, as described in 356979 and 357006:

Restaurant Row

The restaurants are described in 144688 and 144982. There are probably other establishments further along the highway, but these are the ones that I know of. Still trying to track down some other references...

The Grand Old Oprah was added in 166610.
Tu Lung's Chinese Restaurant was added in 172819.

Shopping and Bar Sector
- Side View - Floor Assignments -

195918 contained the first reference to this sector and its establishments. Later, 200102 fleshed out the layout of the sector.

S.O.B. stands for "Some Other Bar". Probably intended as a placeholder, it has now (via email) been renamed to "Lola's" a TG-oriented bar.

The Boobiful Balloon hangs in the mists above the sector; suspended from it is a gondola about the same size as the establishments on the ground, which contains a restaurant.

The 200 Club (a snooty place) has a portal to the "200+ Club" in the Concourse's Upper Levels. The Toon Strip club has a portal to the club of the same name in the Toon Backstage.

The Villain Cafe is run by Principal Katherine Geiser and Ernie Piatzo. Darth Vader and the Leprechaun provide the musical entertainment (198546).

The establishments east of the Parking areas were named in 200137.

Later (via email) the final establishment was named "The White Swallow".

In 223955 shopping centres were added (I'm assuming they only extended the width of the parking lot, but maybe they're wider), as well as elevators.  The shopping centres are seven levels tall.  See the Floor Assignment page for detail about the stores contained here.

Recovery Sector
- Side View - Floor Assignments -

This sector was fully described in 154399.

More details, such as the reefs and marina, were added in 170535 and 170537.

Emergency Command Sector
- Side View - Floor Assignments - Closeup -

This sector was initially described in 143245, then in more detail in 159627.

This is one of the few parts of the Ring to have a solid roof over it.

The Toon Backstage
- Closeup of The Forum -

More detail was added in 194883. Even more detail was added in 195334, 198174, and 194908.

The sector consists of eleven pairs of blocks, each catering to a different type of Toon. One notable feature of the ghettos is that, like Author Suites, they are bigger on the inside than the outside. The following ghettos have been identified so far:

There is also a Forum, a general gathering area for all types of Toon. The Forum is surrounded by pubs and watering holes, including the Krazy Kat. For a detailed diagram of The Forum, see the Closeups page.

The Green Light District
- Closeup -

The external layout of this sector is identical to that of the Emergency Command Sector, except for the two tunnels passing around it.. First described in 200103, more detail was added in 200307.

This is one of the few parts of the Ring to have a solid roof over it. The Infinity Highway (Ringroad) splits to go around it rather than passing through.

The far ends of the tunnels are blocked by portals with signs warning "Enter at your own peril".

True Null

The external layout of this sector is identical to that of the Emergency Command Sector.  First described in 222777.

Deep Well

Mentioned briefly in 246564, this is the fourth of the Strongholds.

The Riviera

Some details were given in 255659, with more info given by email. Additional description in 200325.

There are various nightclubs scattered through the park north of the Highway, and various fetish-related establishments south of it. The Ringwall is mostly absent to the north, and has been replaced with a topless beach.

The Seawall drops 10 feet from the Lido to the beach; the ground in the main part of the sector is higher than usual to allow for the drop. There are diagonal parking spaces all along the top of the seawall.

The Lido is a side road that runs along the top of the seawall, and is slightly narrower than the main highway.

On the eastern end, the tunnel leads into the Basement Levels below the Proving Grounds. The side roads lead to the western parking lot in that sector.

The Proving Grounds

First mentioned in 255659, with some more speculation by email. More details added in 248918.

There is no surface access to this sector, other than to the parking lots on either end. There are security checkpoints at the stairs/elevator to the upper levels, and a Moria gate with Dementors bars the main exit from each parking lot, so that tourists can't just come in and wander around the dangerous areas. The Highway runs through the Basement levels in this sector.

This sector is roofed over, though there are some small Upper Levels at either end for R&R and emergency medical facilities. Stairs and elevators lead to those levels directly from the parking lots.

The Mind Sciences areas deal primarily with mental, emotional, and hormonal interference, though other things may go on there as well.

The East Wing (A)

The East Wing (B)

These two sectors are really two halves of the same sector, due to the link connecting them.

The Kendall Triangle

Described in 274476 and 275045 (and amplified in several emails), this is an area east of the Sea of Troubles, centered around a traffic circle. Part of the Bawdy Park Sector in 294391.

The subway tracks pass beneath the Circle, and continue underground beneath the Infinity Highway. The tunnel entrance is, for security reasons, closed with a "cat's-eye" hatch (a vertical one) except when a train is entering.

Three sections of the road (as marked) are on raised levees. The "waist" section is on double-high levees.

New areas to the west added in 294393 and 294394.

The Science-Fiction Sector
- Side View -

Described originally in 207910, more detail was added in the SFS thread that started in 241010. Overview diagrams completely drawn by Dabbler, and a very impressive job too, especially since he had to compensate for my sloppiness when I drew the original side view.

The first diagram shows the ground-level domes, the second diagram shows the spheres, and the third diagram combines the two. Note that these diagrams are not to the same scale as the other Sector Overviews, but are to the scale of the Side Views.

There are a number of other domes at ground level that are too small to show up on this diagram.

See the Side View for a list of known domes and spheres in this sector.

The Fantasy Sector
- Side View -

The Midway

Dabbler helped create this diagram! You may notice the heavy Monopoly basis for this Sector, whose description was greatly detailed in 295151. The three large buildings are casinos.
