Jim's Device: Going to Sharon's

Sharon had a roomy appartment just around the corner from Jim's. Both of them were college students, and he often wondered how she could afford the rent. Sure, they'd been dating for almost a year, but he still hadn't gotten up the courage to ask her how she did it.

His key (she'd given him one) worked well, and soon he found himself outside her door; a black door with the number 112 stood between him and his girlfriend.

And the experiment.

The cold metal of the device in Jim's hand fascinated him. No matter how long he held the thing, it didn't seem to warm up. That was his first clue that it was different, special. He had been tempted to try some of the buttons on strangers on his walk over, but he knew that there was no way to tell if things really had changed since he didn't know them. Sharon was the only way to go.

He opened the door. Sharon was in the kitchen, the sound of something frying met his ears. He kicked off his shoes and walked in to see her, holding the device behind his back.

"Hey babe," he grinned, trying not to act like he was hiding anything. Sharon knew him better, though, and instantly knew something was up. She turned to him and crossed her arms very sternly.

"What did you do!"

He panicked. Whipping the device out and aiming at her, he pressed:
