The hand twitched in impatience, but Gambit was not so sure. "How do I know this isn't a trick? Besides...what if I want to meet those amazons?" she asked, unconsciously beginning to stroke herself.
"They...don't like elves?" added the voice, clearly a pathetic after-thought.
"Why don't you come down here?" asked Murmur.
"Well, it's rather simple, really," said the voice. "I'm Caret Underline Caret. Or just Caret, for short. Personally, I don't usually get worked up in these author cooperations. They branch off in a thousand different directions, and I'm too lazy to follow the plotline of each branch. Not to mention the fact that each author decides to transform every other author in all of the branches they write. No, I prefer to stay safely outside of the fourth wall. It's a lot less messy."
"But you just did break the fourth wall. You're inside of the Addventure again."
"Well...yes," said Caret, as his oversized hand managed to look shifty-eyed. "...But...it's more like I'm outside of the story, reaching into it. A sort of Deus ex Machina, if you will. ...Look, do you guys want my help or not?"
