QK: A Test of Will

Unending BE - episode 481876

Quick as a flash, before she could even think Katie grabbed the pendant from the ground the bard had dropped it on, slipping it onto her neck. She gave Dál a vulpine growl... a growl that slowly vanished as she realised what was happening.

Feeling pain Katie looked down in confusion: her hand was gripping the pendant so tightly her knuckles hurt. A voice, sweetly seductive in the back of her mind begged her not to throw it away, not to trust Dál. He wanted it for himself, the voice warned, wanted it's magic. She could see it in his eyes. But she could see something else there too: the man who had saved her life, the friend in this strange and frightening land.

With tremendous effort the fox-girl pulled off the pendant and hurled it as far as she could.

It took a moment for the wave of exhaustion that swamped her to pass but Dál was there, strong hands offering support. After a while she managed to grin at the bard. "I was just thinking of my friend Robin and what she'd say: 'saphires with red fur? Not in my school.'"

Dál chose to let this go without comment but the relief in his face was clear. After waiting for Katie to gather her strength the two moved on.

  1. At the next hut they find a familiar face waiting for them...
  2. *They reach the hut without incident but the next morning Katie awakens to find herself alone...
  3. Something Else
