"I'll say," said Jamie unhappily. She was now 5'4 - a fairly respectable height for a teenage girl but a good 6 inches shorter than usual. To say nothing of her proportions: she was practically swimming in her own clothes. "Thanks for stopping me getting worse but can you actually help me get better?"
"Yes," said Mrs. Smillwallow, "but only if we can find who has been targeting you. Do you have any enemies?"
"Well I'm one of the three most popular girls in school, so I guess it could be pretty much anyone," admitted Jamie only half jokingly. In truth she didn't think she was a total bitch but she was honest enough to admit she enjoyed being beautiful and popular and having the hottest guys in school drool over her.
"Hmm, well this might help if you get close enough." Mrs. Smillwallow threw Jamie a small silver ring. "Wear this. When you come into contact with the person who cursed you it will get warm. Now there is the problem of how you look now; we can't just send you out looking like this. You'll have to wear a disguise."
"I can help," said Barbara thoughtfully. "I have some of my old clothes in my car trunk that I'm taking to Goodwill. We're about the same size now Jamie so it should fit you. Plus I can dye you're hair."
"What colour?" asked Jamie. To her surprise Barbara laughed and twirled a lock of her beautiful red hair.
"I'm flattered you think I'm natural honey."
Mrs. Smillwallow apologetically explained she had to leave to take care of another class but promised to check in later. Barbara dyed Jamie's hair and then left to fetch the old clothes while Jamie let it set. Twenty minutes later she returned and Jamie looked at the old clothes.
