Self-Aware Sharon Reflects on What She's Been Told

Going outside with Jim, Sharon thankfully found that everything looked normal again. As she got into Jim's car, she was still pondering Amorphous's strange words. Could she really be no more than a computer-generated artifact? Had the woman really been in her house at all, or could she somehow have imagined the whole weird encounter? No, she decided, she couldn't accept that. The woman really had been there.
As they drove towards the mall, she reflected on what Amorphous had said about Jim: "This Jim of yours knows many perversions, samples many pleasures, and even abuses many powers, and all the way displaying a stunning lack of sense." Sharon knew that the last part was true enough, though she loved him anyway, but the first part was rather hard to believe. There was that laboratory that he had in his basement, though, that he would never let her enter. What did he get up to in there?
- "Jim, just what do you have in your laboratory?" she asked.
- *"Is it true that you know many perversions?" she said, causing Jim nearly to swerve off the road.
- Sharon decided that it would be better to say nothing to Jim. But she knew where he kept the key to the basement door, and when she next had the opportunity she would take a look around.
