“Of course, we’ll still need to take a soul now and then,” Cindy chimed in. “But one’ll last us for weeks at a time.”
The Hunter frowned. “I was hoping we could avoid that.”
Livewire looked up. “You saying you’d rather us go to Hell? Sick of us already?”
“It’s not that. Every time you all misbehave, I suffer the same consequence you do.”
“But, we gain from taking souls,” Cindy said. “How does that hurt you?”
“I’m not sure, and I’d rather not find out. Just warn me ahead of time, and try not to kill them, okay? My Karmic record’s bad enough right now.”
“Gotcha,” Wire said, flashing her a clawed thumbs-up. “Now, if you’ll excuse us, I’m going to eat my soulmate’s pussy.” Without missing a beat, he shifted position and started, neither of them caring that they were still in the room.
Penance and friends made their way back to their own room. “I’m losing my friggin’ mind. Again.” She sat down on the bed.
Samantha took a seat next to Penance, giving her a friendly shoulder rub. “You’re doing great. No one doubts that.”
“Sam’s right,” Candace interjected. “There’s only so much you can be expected to do.”
Penance nodded silently. “I’m tired as Hell. I want to get some sleep.” She kicked off her boots and curled up on the bed, still fully clothed. She was out like a light in minutes.
