As for Beth and Becky, when they slid out of the portal they found themselves still in Shadow Peak. But instead of in the girls' locker room they were now on Main Street. But it wasn't the Main Street they remembered. It looked like a war had gone off in the town. Half the stores were boarded up, the others were burnt out. Beth looked in the broken window of a looted appliance store, the digital calendar display was still on and it told her exactly where she and Becky had gone to.
They were now back in the present, back to the very same day that the Black Dogs had sent her and the others to the Fantasy World. But this present was obviously not the same present she had left from. But what exactly had happened here?
Wandering through the eerily quiet town, the pair didn't see anyone. As the day wore on and night drew closer they found themselves back at the high school. It was out on the football field that they made a terrible discovery. Morgan was there, hung in mid-air, her body spread eageled, her arms and legs tied to the goal posts on either side of her. Rushing to her they cut her down and rested her gently in the grass. Morgan looked up blearily at Beth and croaked, "I thought that they killed you..." Beth shook her head and hugged Morgan tightly, "No baby, I'm fine, but what happened to you? Who did this?!"
And then Morgan realized that this Beth was the one who had jumped into that portal over a month ago, and not the one that had been hunted down and ripped apart. Morgan then told them the story of what happened.
After the portal in the locker room disappeared, Morgan and the others chose to hide out until help could come. But it didn't. After a while the others decided that help was never going to come and that they were all stuck here from now on. So they made contact with their counterparts from the past, or rather the present since they were technically from the future. Morgan couldn't change their minds and so she went along with them. But once they became weretigers again, which was what they had really wanted from their counterparts all along, Morgan became very unsure of them, even frightened.
Knowing what was going to happen in the future they made a plan to change that future, specifically they were going to pre-empt the coming attack by the Black Dogs. They put their plan into action quietly, carefully. They began to recruit new members to their weretiger family. Soon there were hundreds of weretigers. What they wanted was an army and once they got it they stormed the Citadel. The fighting was fierce and bloody, but the weretigers had the element of total surprise. The Black Dogs were eaten alive. And then the Owls came and tried to save the Black Dogs, but they too were overpowered. Once they were taken care of the weretigers, filled with bloodlust, turned on the town. Morgan and her counterpart and Beth's counterpart tried to stop them, but nothing could stop them.
They ruled Shadow Peak now. They killed Morgan and Beth and left "future" Morgan as an example to all those who would resist. The reason the town seemed almost deserted was because those people who were left hid most of the time and the weretigers chose to come out mostly at night. It was easier for them to make the change under a night sky and the hunting was much more fun then too.
Beth looked up in the sky, the sun was at the horizon and night was falling quick.
