Wanda blinked, astounded by what she saw; or rather, by what she didn’t see. No rainbow dragon. Annie, human and clothed. Two human girls, soberly dressed and far enough away from each other to wedge a yardstick between them. No video camera in sight.
“What’s up, Wanda? How are you tonight?”
The girl stammered for words. She looked back to the group assembled behind her, looking very sleepy, and very impatient.
“Um, Annie, where’d…the dragon…um, where’d it go?”
Annie gave her a confused look. “Dragon? Oh, yes, of course, the dragon you saw.” She casually walked over to a large glass tank, containing a Komodo Dragon. “Here you go! You’ll forgive him if he’s not too talkative right now.”
Wanda literally heard her jaw bounce off the floor. She also heard the mumblings of the crowd behind her, talking about false alarms and drugs and immature hoaxes. They dispersed, leaving Wanda alone in the doorway.
Several minutes passed in silence, until Wanda finally spoke. “Annie…I know…I saw you. You…you weren’t…you’re not…human.”
