“All right. You’re coming back tonight, right?”
Nora responded with a deep kiss. “Damn straight. You’re not shaking me that easily.” She dressed herself and left Jim’s house, after one last goodbye kiss.
Yvonne had been freaking out ever since she had heard about the mall incident.
She hadn’t thought much about Nora heading out to check out that new role-playing game, until the live news feed of werewolves at the mall. She’d thought it a hoax at first, until the footage of somebody’s transformation was broadcast.
Now, she hadn’t heard a word from Nora since, and paced the floor nervously. She was about to call the cops and file a missing persons report when the dorm room door opened.
“Nora!” Yvonne practically flew across the room, wrapping her dark-skinned arms around her roommate and friend. “Girl, I’m glad you’re okay, but I oughta kick your ass for makin’ me worry!”
Nora smiled, and tried not to laugh; Yvonne didn’t do the “pissed-off black woman” act very well, unless she was extremely angry. Obviously, she wasn’t too mad at her. “I’m sorry, Yvonne. I didn’t mean to do that to you, but I had a lot on my mind.”
Yvonne nodded, running her hands through her network of black braids. “Yeah, I’m sure.” She gulped nervously, unsure of how to ask the next question. “Did you…I mean, did they…are you…”
Nora smiled a bit. “Lon Chaney Jr.’s distant cousin? Yup.”
Yvonne nodded. “Want to talk about it?”
“Sure. Sit down, let me make some coffee. There’s a lot to tell.”
