There is nothing you can offer me, Pen said, except...
“Yes?”
A
mate. Someone
to synchronize my power.
Annie tossed her arms in the air. “Oh, for the love of…”
Once I have another to
share my power, it will grow stronger through the union. Surely you felt your
own strength increase from your fledgling union with the one called Nobakai.
Pen shook his head. The
ancients never die. He is in a stasis, what you humans might call hibernation.
His power ebbed before your Bond could be achieved.
“Can he be restored?”
Yes, through the
merging of your powers in the Bond, but it will take your full transformation into
a dragoness to accomplish this.
Pen nodded sagely. You
will, red one. Someone is already watching you.
“I went to college to play matchmaker for a dragon. Unbelievable.” Annie paced the floor, once in a while stopping to pick up the pieces of her ruined experiments.
I have enough power to
create one, of a single aspect. Once they become, the Bond will sustain me
until I can regain my power. Then, I can assume the appropriate aspect and change
you. I assume you know how.
“Wouldn’t that be like cheating, if we’re supposed to be
mated to another?”
Your mates would not
think it inappropriate. It would be as though the universe bestowed the gift of
dragonhood upon you.
“Okay, so how do we go about this?”
You must find me a
willing female, who will submit to the transformation without coercion. Once I
have remade her, I must be guarded until the Bond is complete, and my power is
refreshed.
Sharon and Charlotte exchange glances.
