"Thanks Jim, you know I'm just kidding about being late with the rent", said Stan. "Everybody can't pay that on time here, if at all. "Don't worry about it", said Jim, "you've always been pretty cool and don't ask to many questions. I know I usually keep to myself but I just feel so down for losing my job, having to go on welfare and living here because it's the only place I can afford."
I hear ya Jimbo, anyone not receiving a welfare cheque wouldn't be caught dead here", laughed Stan, "sad, down on your luck stories are a dime a dozen here, why did you lose that job anyway?"
"Umm, I don't really want to get into that", said Jim, "let's just say that it never should of happenned."
"Sorry man, don't mean to pry", said Stan.
"No problem", said Jim, "I think I'll go outside today for a change, it's been a week and I'm getting bored staring at the wall in my room every day."
With that Jim turned and walked out the front doors. The sky was grey and it looked like it was about to rain.
"Damn I guess I missed the bus talking to Stan", thought Jim, "I guess I'll just start walking to the mall."
Jim thought back to the reason why he lost his job. He was working in the promotion & advertising department of a corporation and loved his job very much. He was even secretly dating the most beautiful woman he had ever seen in his life who also worked in that department ("secretly", since they don't think favourably at people dating that work in the same area). Life was perfect, he even talked to Nicole about marrying her he cared for her that much. She seemed receptive to the idea but she said she wanted to take things slow and have fun. Jim guesses she was never serious about that because one day on his sheduled day off Jim came into the office to pick something up unexpectantly and he caught her and the boss having sex on his desk.
