Which was to say that almost anything had ridiculous martial arts in it. If it wasn't Martial Arts Volleyball, it was Martial Arts Cheerleading on the sidelines. If it wasn't Martial Arts Croquet, then some similar variant was lurking nearby. And, in Nerima if nowhere else on the planet, martial arts was completely lacking in the usual philosophies of self-mastery, discipline, or codes of conduct. Martial Arts were to be used in ridiculously overpowered attacks in darn near every aspect of life.
Which is why Akane Tendo, a short girl who was sufficiently dense that she was the only person in her school district not to know that Nabiki had been stealing her underwear and selling it to the Horde of Hentai (later on she'd also do this for Happosai.) The only person in the entire district not to know that Ranma did not glomp Shampoo, rather the other way around, and the only one in her family not to know P-Chan was Ryouga.
(She was also the only girl in the entire district to fail Home Ec consistently, the only girl in Tokyo who still thought that to swim you needed to breathe water, and perhaps the only girl in the world who thought that you made caramel apples using vinegar.)
Which meant that Akane was facing, obviously, a ridiculously powerful (if moronic) martial artist on the opposing team. (Saint Hebereke had more than one insane flower in its garden, it seemed.) In this case the tall and lean practictioner of Martial Arts Basketball: Akemi Daihatsu.
"Now, Tendo, learn why people fear the power of Martial Arts Basketball!"
"Yeah right," shot back Akane. "Just do your worst."
"That I shall!"
At which point Ranma's fiddling with the slidebar caught up with Akane and she found herself abruptly:
