Hilbert led everyone back out to the lobby. As you see, it IS possible to consider the hotel all on one level, since the lobby goes up ten floors. You can see the balconies of the odd-numbered suites opening out onto the lobby." He pointed. The balconies on the upper floors were slightly stair-stepped back from the floors below. "The lobby is about 10 floors tall, so I suppose the whole Hotel is one level, in a manner of speaking. You can consider, if you want to, Mr. Russell's lodgings to be a separate building, but one that opens onto the controlled and air-conditioned Backstage Concourse rather than Outside. The Bar and Grill is in a similar situation: it opens onto the Concourse much as a shop would open onto an air-conditioned mall. We do have sort of a concession agreement with the Old Wizard, so he's part of the Hotel in a manner of speaking." Pause. "The odd-numbered floors are to the south of the main corridor, and the even-numbered floors, to the north. The odd-numbered hotel rooms have a balcony that opens up onto the Councourse, and the even-numbered rooms have balconies that open Outside, facing the grounds. The Author Suites, and indeed all the rooms of any kind, follow this pattern: odd-numbers to the south of the hall, even-numbers to the north. Currently, only the Hotel Rooms have balconies. The view is a little tenuous at present, higher up, but I'm told that it's possible to see counter-clockwise along the Backstage Ring almost a quarter of the way, all the way to Dick's Last Resort, which must be an hour's drive."
He pointed again. "According to the latest schematics, there is no Author Suite floor number one, which accounts for the gap. It will eventually be filled in, perhaps with additional Themed Suites. There ARE pillars, it's just that the mist is so thick they're hard to see. The entire Concourse is ten stories tall and air conditioned, but there are exits at the ends. The west exit leads around to the Grounds and Pool. I imagine, although I haven't been out there for quite some time, that more restaurants and shops and even residences are beyond the Bar and Grill, out the east doors. I believe there's a pub out the east exit, which we're not affiliated with, called the Bear and Chive." Hilbert paused to smile mischevously. "By the way, the Penhouse level WAS at one point the highest level, hence the name. Of course, then Playboy had to top them and get their own floor. I think according to the latest system that the rooms on the Penthouse floor start with 14--, and the rooms on the Playboy floor start with 15--. I'm surprised the Authors haven't discovered that already. There are rooms reserved for the use of the Playmates and Pets most popular with the clientele. I believe Anna Nicole Smith has 1500, for instance. On the Penthouse level, I believe Avril Lund has 1400. There are common areas on each level, of course, for dining and recreation. It's just nice for each woman to have a place of her own while visiting us." Pause. "As long as every on else is doing it, let's have a list of where to find everyone. . . ."
"More work for Adama," Woohoo mumbled.
"Oh, Mr. Adama ENJOYS being organized. We'd fall apart without him. Ah, here it is. We tried a system where all the ones with dark hair were on one side of the hall and all the ones with blonde hair were on the other, but we caught too many of them cheating. Ah, yes. . . ."
