Just to make sure, Dave wrote down every conceivable measurement for Marjorie before kissing her goodnight and heading home. He had to work tomorrow so he would need to come into the costume store on his lunch break.

Fortunately, the cost of the new geisha costume would be offset by returning the maid costume Marjorie had given him to take back. Upon entering the shop at 12:25, Dave realized he had only a few minutes to get the costume before he would have to head back to work. He therefore walked immediately up to the cashier and asked if he could exchange the maid costume of a geisha costume.

  1. "No problem at all, Dave," the woman behind the counter said eerily.
  2. "Have you considered trying our two-for-one deal?" the cashier asked, "The store credit would cover a costume for you as well as your girlfriend."
  3. *"I'm sorry," the woman said, "but that's a very popular model. We're all out. Would you like to check out our other items?"
  4. *"We don't do exchanges," the woman said.
  5. Something else happened.
