To the untrained eye, the place seemed rather chaotic. Randy drank his Hires root beer watching people dart back and forth. Some had papers, other had videotapes but all were rushing for no apparant reason. Making his way through the endless twist and turns, Randy walk into the sound stages. Almost everything CNN transmits is done and coordinated here. The sets seemed smaller that they do on TV.

All the faces were very familiar to Randy.

Jill Brown was standing by in the weather room in front of a green screen. The red light was off. Lila Feng was in the room also, off to the side talking to a producer wearing a headset.

Carol Lin was seated behind a desk with Leon Harris as they did CNN's Early Edition.

Joie Chen was on another set doing The World Today. The red-light was off. She sat there as a monitor showed Wolf Blitzer in DC.

Asieh Namdar was on the set of CNN's World Report with Ralph Wenge filming some promo shots.

And Kyra Phillips was subbing on the Headline News set.

All the sets were behind a plexiglass wall. To the far end was the Master Control Room. Randy walks over entering the MCR. The room itself was divided into eight separate sections. Each one was occupied and they all had redundant systems for independent operations. Moving out of sight Randy get the remote from the camera bag slung around his shoulder and stops time.

  1. Was Jill Brown/Lila Feng to be pranked on first?
  2. Was Carol Lin about to experience technical difficulties?
  3. Was Joie Chen about to have one of those days?
  4. Do the promo shots need some creative influence that only Randy can give?
  5. *Will Krya Phillips regret subbing this particular morning?
  6. Someone or something else?
