"Ah Jim, I believe this right here is what you want," the old man said. Jim just stared at it in confusion. It was a beautiful pen, he would give the old man that, but he was looking for a gift for Sharon. Besides, what was so special about this pen anyway?
"This pen as you so inadequately think of it, is very special indeed," the old man answered as if he was reading Jim's thoughts, which he was,"And believe me, if you have this pen you won't have to worry about Sharon's birthday present anyway."
"I shouldn't worry about getting Sharon a present?" Jim asked. "She'd kill me if I didn't get her anything! What does that pen do anyway?"
"With this pen, anything you write down becomes reality and anything that you draw leaps of the page and becomes a real object, person, thing, whathaveyou. So, you could just draw Sharon a present, and once you really figure out how to work the pen...you could add a few special powers to that gift, if you know what I mean," the old man said grinning like the cheshire cat.
Actually, Jim had no idea what the old man was talking about...but grinned, nodded, and pretended like he did anyway. Well, the idea of a pen that could make anything a reality sounded interesting...and if it didn't work, Jim could always just give it to Sharon and say that it was her present. He figured that he could always pass off such a nice pen as an expensive gift anyway.
