"Why have you brought us here, you slab of stone?" Sharon yelled to the stone mass.
"Don't you yell at me, missy, or I'll zap you to a world much more unusual than this." the obelisk retorted. "Now listen up, sit down, and I'll try to explain..."
Seeing no other immediate option, Jim and Sharon sat down in the soft grass as the obelisk began it's story. "This is the Furry World," the obelisk said, "And I have decided to establish diplomatic relations with this world much as I have decided to do on your Earth. However, the furries won't speak to a 'slab of stone', so I have chosen the two of you to establish relations with the inhabitants of the Furry World."
"Establish relations? Just like that?" Jim asked in a sarcastic tone.
"Yes," the obelisk replied, "But there's a twist to this arrangement. The furries will not interact with humans... they regard your kind as a lower form of life."
Sharon spoke up, "Well then how do you expect us to-"
"I'm getting to that," the obelisk replied, cutting Sharon off. "Now like I was saying, the furries won't talk to you in your current form. My own powers aren't strong enough to adequately disguise you, so you're going to have to find the Elixer of Fur. You'll find it in the middle of the forest to the east of here. It's sitting on a tree stump in the middle of a clearing. Each of you must drink only one cap-full of the Elixer, no more and no less, otherwise the effects would be.... unpleasant... to say the least."
"So you're saying that we have to find this fur elixer thing, drink a cap-full of it, become a furry, and become friends with these people?" asked Jim, seeking clarification.
"That's the plan," the obelisk replied, "Now get to it. Oh, and one more thing - don't let any of the furries see you until your transformation. Otherwise you'll probably be hunted down or something." and then the obelisk went dark once again.
"Like the obelisk says, let's get to it," Jim said to Sharon as he stood up.
"Are you going to go through with this? Just leave your human form behind and become an animal?" Sharon asked in confusion.
"Well I don't see what other choice we have here. We're in a strange world, we'll probably never get back to our world, and it we cooperate the obelisk might help us out later." Jim replied with perfect logic.
Sharon reluctantly agreed and the two humans went off to find the Elixer of Fur.
