A couple of hours later, Jacki came back home. The first thing she noticed was that Jessica wasn't crying. Now, that's better, she thought to herself. Maybe we're finally passed the whole terrible twos thing.
She went into the living room to find the child playing in her playpen. "How's Mommie's little girl doing today?" she asked, picking her daughter up. As she placed her hand on the child's bottom, she could tell that her diaper was full. And from the smell of it, had been for awhile. What's going on here? Why hasn't Amy changed this diaper?
She called out the teenager's name, but got no answer. "Mommie," Jessica cut in, getting her attention. The two-year-old pointed toward the hallway that led to the linen closet. "Amy there," she said.
Jacki looked at her daughter calmly. There was something strange going on here. She went to the hallway and looked inside. What she saw made her almost drop the child.
Standing in the hallway was the babysitter. She was in mid-stride, heading back for the living room. There was a stunned expression frozen on her face. Every inch of her body that could be seen outside of her clothes had a hard, gray appearance. Amy had been turned to stone.
