Jim wriggles around inside the rubbery thing that was Sharon's body.
Eventually he finds his hands inside things like gloves...and this lets
him stuff his own head into a rubbery head-shaped thing that once held
Sharon's skull and brain. It has eyeholes, or at least transparent
patches he can pull over his own eyes...and nostrils, and a mouth. With
his gloved hands he can position all the parts of the rubbery face
properly over his own. Similarly, he finds himself able to work his
legs and feet into hollow, rubbery legs and feet...soon, every part of
his body is fitted snugly into a hollow rubber counterpart. He finds
that he can move, can get up off the bed, can see through the clear
eyepatches. He gets up and walks to the mirror...
- Then the change hits, and his body softens like wax, shifting under the pressure of the rubbery but amazingly strong shell that surrounds it...
- *...where he sees that he's dressed in what looks like a rubber caricature of Sharon's skin! It's distorted wildly, due to his greater size.
- ...and sees something else entirely...
