It had begun quietly, neither of them noticing. As the world came to life and realized the changes that had been made, the madness began. Parents and children had changed ages; husbands and wives were mismatched; it seemed that the changes had no rhyme or reason, but tended to make the worst of a situation. Bruce heard the breaking of glass outside and the yelling and screaming in the streets and knew that he had to do something. No matter what else, he (or she) was still a police officer.
He broke the kiss and looked Maude in the eye (was she taller, now?), "Honey, I've got to see what I can do. Something crazier than this is going on, and we're going to need the whole force out there today."
He found his gun, which thankfully his paw-hands could still use, but was less successful finding clothes. He dug through his suitcase, but was unable to find anything that might fit his new body. Maude tossed him a pile of stretchy cloth, "Here, honey," she murmured, "I brought my leotard to work out in. It should stretch enough."
With her help, Bruce was able to wedge his body into the tight spandex--thankfully the black and brown matched her fur. She clipped the badge on the tight material between her breasts and slung the holster. A quick check of the chamber later, she was at the door, "Honey, I left you my backup. Stay in the room until I get back."
She opened the door and stepped into the new world.
