The Apprentice
Unending BE - episode 47025
"The reason I was willing to spare you in the first place was that I sensed within you the spark necessary for one to become a mage. Your friend, while likely an intelligent man in his former life, did not have such a spark and was of no use to me. Even had he chosen to regain his male form, he could have been no more than a simple guard. His choice to remain female actually helped me, as the proceeds from > her < sale will go towards supporting > our < efforts. Who knows, if she was sold to the king, she may even be of use in the future. . . . But enough exposition about a simple slave. You are the important one. As i said, you have the spark, and it should not take too long, perhaps a year, to make a decent apprentice out of you. Then we should at least have a chance." Rick could not believe how wordy the wizard could be at times, but nonetheless he grasped the implications of the speach. "You mean I'd have powers like yours, where I could transform people and affect their minds?"
"My dear boy, transformations are only one type of spell. While amusing at times, they are relatively simple. Battle spells, healing spells, and various other types of magic will take up most of your time should you opt to join me."
Rick was excited by the possibility of gaining such power, and in only a year! He had just one more question. "How do you know you can trust me?"
The wizard smiled, "I would think that your recent experience indicates that you need to worry about trusting me more than I need to worry about trusting you. But I give you my word that if you remain faithful to me, I shall honor my word to you. So what is your decision?"
- *Rick agrees to train as the wizard's apprentice
