With that final choice, only one cylinder remained highlighted. Stepping to its threshold, Jim gingerly stepped in, lay back against the cushioned walls, and pressed the activation button. "Beginning transformation", sounded a dulcet female voice through the speakers at either side of the headrest. "Please wait". Slowly, the tube cover closed, leaving the interior illumined only by a small overhead light ... over Jim's head, that is. Jim looked down at a sudden coldness to see a blue fluid pouring from vents by his feet. "Please remain calm", said the voice. "The hyperoxygenated fluid provided is completely non-toxic. As it approaches your nose and mouth, please continue to breathe normally". *Nose and mouth!?*, thought Jim with sudden tenseness as the free-flowing liquid began to lap against his chest in a chill wave. Voice or no voice, it was hard to believe he was expected to breathe a liquid, and his brain and body fought with all the ferocity of time-tested instinct against the impending "drowning".
