Dinner Time

Dusk was beginning to descend outside, but Jim and Sharon did not notice as they continued to read the book in fascination - which was tinged with horror at least in Sharon's case. Then they were disturbed by the distant sound of a gong, and realised that it was time for dinner.

"We'd better go," said Jim. "Hang on," Sharon replied. "Gerald said that dress for the men was formal. Hadn't you better change?" "I suppose so," said Jim. "I don't want to get in trouble by keeping everyone waiting for dinner, so I'll be as quick as I can." In a very few minutes he had changed into the white shirt and black bow-tie, trousers and tuxedo that he found in the wardrobe.

Sharon summoned up her courage to face a roomful mostly composed of strangers in her state of undress, and they left their room and headed in the direction that the sound of the gong had come from.

  1. They got lost, having not been given any directions.
  2. They arrived in the dining-room - and were in trouble for being late.
  3. They arrived in the dining-room. Sharon found that the food that the women were supposed to eat was very different from the men's.
  4. *They arrived in the dining-room, and were warmly greeted by the other diners.
