Jim decided it would be best for Rick to remember the incident, if he was to learn a lesson from it, but thought it would be simplest if Amanda forgot it. If Rick should have designs on her, he didn't want to do anything that would prevent that. Though he suspected that after what had just happened, even Rick might be turned off her. Having agreed with "Melody" what would happen, he raised and lowered his hand.

Amanda was back in her chair, fully dressed, with no memory of what had happened. Nor did anyone else in the place, apart from Jim, "Melody" and Rick, have any memory of it. Rick looked at Jim, his face a combination of relief and awed respect. "What on Earth is the matter with you?" Amanda asked him. "You've got the strangest look on your face." "Er, nothing," said Rick, trying hard to regain his composure.

They soon finished their meal.

  1. They went their separate ways.
  2. *The four of them went on somewhere else.
  3. Out on the street, a drunk shouted abuse at them.
