She saw Jim, but he was dressed in an odd stars-and-stripes costume of some sort. He also carried some kind of rod or staff. Kristen also saw Ernie Piatzo, but he too was dressed in a comic-book outfit, a black suit with red boots and gloves. He carried a strange blaster-gun of some sort.
Jim and Ernie were exchanging beams of energy, but neither was hitting the other.
Kristen bit her lip in puzzlement. What was she supposed to do? She checked her outfit, made sure that it was stright, adjusted her boobs slightly, ran her fingers through her hair, then strode out of the alleyway and toward the battle as confidently as she could manage.
As she got closer, she could hear Ernie and Jim talking. They both completely ignored her.

"Wrong, Annhiliator!" Jim retorted. "One blast of my Gravity Rod will render you totally immobile!"

"Wow," Jim replied stupidly.
