"We got to stop--" Sharon started, but a zombie's rotting arm breaking the same door Kevin got into shut her up. Kathy panicked and clung to Jim, almost making him fall over.
"Kathy! Get off him NOW! Jim! Think you can hotwire Ernie's car?" Sharon ordered in the best commanding tone she could muster. Jim was definitely enjoying the warm and tight hug, but soon got back to his reason.
"Yes!"
"Let's go then! COME ON YOU BIMBO!! ONE TWO THREE!!" Sharon yelled again. Darting through the back door, he couldn't help to think about how the two women -- not a meter separating the two -- could be more distanced.
Zombies are slow spotters, and these were no exception. As Jim tore off the panel under the steering wheel, Sharon jumped into the passenger seat after throwing Kathy in the back row. "Oww!" she complained in a high-pitched voice.
Finally three creatures saw them while Jim was fumbling with the wires. Sharon was quick to close the windows (for how much it was worth) and Kathy, well, just buckled up and sat still, trying to remain as unnoticed as possible. One zombie collided with the car's side, and began banging on the left back glass. Blood, pus and bits of rotten meat stained the glass with every hit.
"Eeew! Gross!" Kathy said. "Shut up, will you?" an angry Sharon answered.
Finally, the Mitsubishi L200 double-cab pickup came to life. The engine revved, and Jim put the shift into reverse, releasing the clutch with a jerk of his leg. The wheels screeched and a zombie got postered on the tarmac by the left tyres. None of the three noticed that it was Ernie Piatzo.
"Now what?" Jim asked when they got out of town. The situation was pretty much the same everywhere -- some zombies were beginning to wander out of the city limits, scared away by the houses which had been put on fire by looters.
"We need to make a serious plan. But I can't think of anything." Sharon replied.
"Jimmy... I'm scared... please, let's go home."
Jim stopped the vehicle and turned, taking Kathy's hand. "We can't, dear. We can't..."
Jim ceased to try and reassure Kathy as he noticed Sharon's ears fuming. Her glare would have scared off Darth Vader.
