Let's Do the Time Warp Again!
Unending BE - episode 30353
Donna involuntarily gasped as all the torches in the room went out for a second--
--and when they came back, EVERYTHING had changed!
The once ancient, empty, crumbling room was now all new, put together, and polished! It looked as if it had been cleaned just yesterday! And most importantly, the room was FILLED with PEOPLE running around in it! It was alive! Somehow, Donna had been teleported back in time!
WAAAAAAYYYYYY back. When Donna had first thought the temple to be at least 5,000 years old, and then had later revised her estimate to be "much older than that", she had only scraped the surface of its ancientness.
The people surrounding her were DINOSAURS.
Oh, sure, they had some more humanoid traits, such as they were only about 7 feet tall instead of being huge, bipedal, with shorter claws and more digits on their hands and toes than a normal dinosaur would have, but they were definitely dinosaurs of some kind. Velociraptors, she would say. Or something similar. She wouldn't really know; she'd only seen "Jurassic Park" once when the neighbors had roped her into taking their bratty little kid Chad to it years ago.
"Tikal?" she cried out over the chaos. For chaos it was--everyone was running around like loony toons rather than praying or studying or whatever in a quiet, orderly manner. And with good reason--the temple was on FIRE, and nothing anybody did seemed to be able to put it out!
Donna couldn't find the little pink ball of light ANYwhere, all of a sudden! "TIKAL?!! Where are you? You tricked me!!"
"I am so sorry," said a voice in her ear--a VOICE this time, not a thought, and it was speaking English with a slightly mechanical tone. Must be a "Universal Translator" of some kind at work. Donna whipped about to see a tall, elegant lady dinosaur with pink scales dressed from head to toe in a flowing silver net robe that trailed on the floor, and a huge, wild, multicoloured feather headband that extended out hugely to all sides from her head. She was holding a book in one hand and a candle in the other. "It was the only way I could get back here. The only way I could solve my old mistakes."
"What mistakes?" Donna asked frantically. She'd always thought it would be really neat to be able to actually see the civilisations she studied back when they were still alive, but she never wanted to REALLY do that!
"Because of my ignorance, the temple burned down 65 million years ago," she said sadly. "The temple is the entrance and the storage facility of the last city of my people. The last piece of us that was left after what you call a 'comet' hit the Earth. Because of me, the food supplies were destroyed and the very last of us died. Because of me, my entire species is now nothing but fossils."
"Why is that YOUR fault?" Donna demanded, dodging out of the way of a screaming scaly accolyte. "You didn't cause the comet!"
"But as the High Priestess of the Temple I am personally responsible for everything that happens to it or in it," responded Tikal, now in her new solidified form--she must have blended her "spirit"--Donna was beginning to believe in ghosts now--with her old body from the past, or something--in that same empty, infinitely sad tone of voice. "And now I must set things right. I must save my people!"
Donna considered what to do--but only briefly. That fire was HOT, and now that she was deep underground, there was little chance of escaping from it if it were not put out!
- *Donna decides to help Tikal save her people.
- Donna thinks that if these people are saved, that means that there might still be dinosaurs on earth way later on, and in fact they might even prevent man from evolving by EATING all those little primates before they have a chance! So in order to preserve the timeline, she tries to STOP Tikal. Even if it means burning to her own death.
- Donna decides to just hide out in a safe-ish corner somewhere and let nature take its course.
- SOMETHING ELSE happens.
