Three Times a Lady...
Unending BE - episode 30346
Donna sighed and shook her head. As weird as this day had already been, she supposed it couldn't hurt to make it a little bit weirder. "Go ahead," she said to Tikal. "Give me the grand tour."
First, the little light flew over far to one side and did something Donna couldn't see--and all of a sudden the whole floor was flooded with flickering orange torchlight.
I know how you living folk like light, explained Tikal into her mind. So I thought I'd provide some. Those torches light up whenever you pull a switch, and then stay lit for a minute or so before they fade out again, gradually, unless someone pulls another switch. Ingeniously energy-saving, wouldn't you say? I'M the one who came up with that. If ghosts could sound proud, and if balls of light could puff out their chests and buff their fingernails, that is what Tikal would have been doing at that moment.
Donna was hardly listening to her--well, LISTENING was not quite the right word but you know what I mean--she was too busy staring at the first room of the temple, seeing it now finally. It was HUGE, and it was even more ancient than she had suspected. All around were strange hieroglyphics that were much older than any other language she'd seen--and she'd seen a lot--and all around the walls, attached to them with metal posts, were chairs with COMPUTERS attached to them! Working computers, if the sound was any indication. But they looked nothing like any real computers, and nothing like any sci-fi versions she'd ever seen. They were just...different. When Donna took a closer look at one, she discovered that it looked as if the buttons on the keyboard hadn't even quite been placed or shaped for human hands...but rather something else...
There was also a distinct lack of human figures in the hieroglyphics, too, she realised.
As she was thinking these things, Tikal floated up to her and "said", If you take the three idols that you see in the corners of the room there--the room was triangle-shaped--and place them all on that pedestal high up in the middle, you will be able to open the secret room. Go ahead. Try it. I tell you about it because you are the first future-child I have ever seen who I think is worthy. The only one who is capable of truly understanding.
Donna snorted at that psychobabble mysticism stuff, but on the other hand, a secret room DID sound interesting. So she located the three idols Tikal had mentioned--obviously, she could not move them herself, being a hologram or whatever she was--and, with much sweating and tugging, finally managed to place them on the pedestal in the center of the room. They were sure heavier than they looked, for their size. She then waited patiently to see what would happen next, if anything.
- *Sure enough, the back wall of the room begins to slide upwards and a whole new hidden chamber is revealed!
- *The lights in the pyramid all flicker suddenly and when they come back...
- SOMETHING ELSE.
