Sometime in the middle of the night, a dim green glow enveloped Jim. It was accompanied by a low, clear hum. Several minutes passed, and then eight men clothed in white quietly entered Jim's bedroom. After examining Jim's body, they administered an anesthetic and a sleep inducer, just to make sure he wouldn't awaken during the operation that was to follow.
The men in white labored for several hours, connecting electrodes, recording measurements, and inserting radioactive tracers. Once they knew the location of the memories they were after, they began extracting them, one by one. Soon they had all the information they needed, and they removed the electrodes from Jim's temples. They left the room as silently as they had entered. Three minutes later, the green glow subsided.
