Document #43572: Murphy's Inverter

Unending BE - episode 29265

Jim openned the book to his latest set of schematics, and retrieved a small hand held device from under the work bench. As he unlatched the devices cover, he looked over his schematic and some of the notes he'd made in the margin.

Then he smacked his head. He needed a simple rewiring of the 3rd inductor to the 9th resistor, via Capacitor 10, instead of via Capacitor 12. That would allow for sufficient energy build up to trigger the inversion he'd been looking for. Removing the circuit board Jim switched on his circuit board etching terminal, made the changes and waited a few moments for the new board to be etched. Once it was done, he took it, attached the appropriate electronic components and inserted it into the device. Confident of success he set it down and left the lab for a break.

From the shadows his sister Edith emerged, picking up the device, she turned it on and slipped it in her pocket before quickly rushing outside.

  1. *The device inverts Murphy's law - and everything that can go right does go right.
  2. *The device has a glitch and it enforces Murphy's law - everything that can go wrong, does wrong
  3. The device is a catastrophic failure and amplified Murphy's Law - everything, even things that can't go wrong, goes horribly wrong.
  4. *Something Else Happens
