Unending BE - episode 28922
"Guys, you should REALLY listen to the news for this once!" came the voice
of Sharon's mother from the other side of the door. Then the good woman
went downstairs and turned the TV volume to the maximum. The final notes
of the national anthem filled the air, then followed by a deep, strong
booming voice.
The first of the three who managed to pay some attention was Sharon herself.
As far as she could understand, the results of the recent elections had given
a formerly very minor Christian Fundamentalist party absolute majority in
Congress and Senate, and the President was resigning because of his "immoral
conduct" during his last term. The new executive got to work almost immediately.
By the time Sharon could get Jim and Meg to listen, about two thirds of the
new regulations had passed unnoticed. She finally managed to get them to stop
cleaning each other and listen.
"...All non-Christian citizens are kindly requested to report, either in person
or by fax, to the local police stations for registration. Science teachers
in greades K-6 are required to issue an equal time policy on the creation/evolution
topic, more to come later on this. The new National Morality Code which will be
published in full on tomorrow's newspapers will be effective from 48 hours from
now; among its chief articles we signal..."
Jim was the first to show a reaction. "Oh shit. We're in BIG trouble now!"
Instinctively, he got up and covered himself with a blanket.
"Aw, don't worry THAT much" Sharon replied, "nobody has seen us. I don't
think that anybody would have believed it anyway."
Meg went to check the door and windows to see if anyone could possibly have
seen what was going on, and let out an 'all clear'. During the next ten minutes,
the three cleaned the room very carefully with the blankets, had a quick shower
and got dressed as best as they could. The two girls would have looked really
ridiculous if the situation wasn't so bleak
- *Meg has an idea. "Jim, let's go make more perfume and get Super Soakers! We'll turn the bigots into their own nemesis!"
- *Since Sharon's mother is a member of the Humanist Society, she gets a preemptive visit from the Moral Police.
- The three managed to adapt their clothes to their new selves and get out of the house, trying to look normal.
