  1. *He reached the top, and Sharon succeeded in climbing up after him.
  2. *Jim climbed it but Sharon couldn't manage it.
  3. Jim was about twelve feet up when the vine broke.
  4. Jim climbed the vin. Sharon, following him, was about twelve feet up when it broke.
