Donna pulled the trigger, and saw the immediate impact that buck-shot had on the thing. At such a close range, she was only able to hit a small section of the writhing tentacles, but it had been right next to the phone. The mass of flesh fell to the ground in a wet slap, leaking a clear slime over the floor. Before anything else came out of her phone, Donna ran over and pulled the cord out of the wall, severing the connection.

Keeping an eye on the seemingly-dead mass on her floor, Donna reloaded her shotgun, then leveled the barrel at the heap of limbs. There were some movements within the pile, but they were growing less and less the longer she watched. The puddle of fluid that spread out from the thing was getting larger, however, and Donna didn't want any of it to ruin any of her expensive rugs or furniture.

Donna went to find her assistant, Velma, to get her to clean up the mess while Donna tried to find out where those things had come from. With something this odd, she'd probably have to refer to the rare occult books that her father had told her not to read unless she absolutely had too. Though she trusted his judgment, Donna doubted that she could find much about tentacle monsters that traveled though phone lines on wikipedia.

Grabbing the key from her study, Donna unlocked the heavy wooden door that kept the more dangerous texts in her collection secure. She flipped on the lamp on the small desk at the center of the room and went perusing through the small collection.
