Julie trudged down the long and winding road. The sun was hot and the wind was blowing. She hadn't seen a car since she had been dropped off at the last small town. But Julie was happy. She was having an adventure.
Or so she told herself. Frankly, Julie was board stiff: nothing interesting ever happened to her, which was why she had left home in the first place. She had hoped that life on the open road would be exciting, but was rather disappointed.
While she was not looking, a UFO dropped out of the clouds and hovered above the herd of cattle grazzing behind her. The cows didn't make a noise as one of their number was sucked up through a tube. Nor did they protest when the cow was returned a moment latter missing its internal organs. Cows are like that. The UFO then buggered off to make crop circles somewhere, without Julie ever being aware of its presence.
This sort of thing happened quite often around Julie, who remained oblivious to the fact. Which was a pity really, because it was just the sort of thing she was looking for.
She turned on hearing a motor behind her. Holding her thumb in the time honoured way; Julie was releived when the vehicle pulled over. Maybe things would look up. It was...
