Jim heaves a sigh as the officed got in her car a drove away, then he looked at the ticket. One hundred and fifty dollars! The figure made Jim woozy, that was a large chunk of his monthly pay, fortuantely he had some saved up. JIm gat back behinf the wheel of his car and drove the rest of the way to Sharon's home safely under the speed limit.
Sharon's mother answered the door in her sky blue bathrobe. She smiled when she saw Jim. Fine wrikles lined her face and gave her a look that demanded respect and obediance, yet was also kind. "Jim, hi. Sharon is doing some homework in her room now. Are you here to help her with her advanced calculus again?"
Jim nodded. "Uhh, yeah. I guess so. Actually, I came to give her a birthday present." Jim said kind of sheepishly. "Oh, go right on up." Sharons mom invited and got out of his way. "I'm sure she won't mind."
Jim took the stairs two at a time and stopped outside Sharon's door. He knocked twice and slowly opened the door, being careful to hide the gift behind his back. Sharon was laying on her bed whith her books spread out in a fan infront of her. She looked up and grinned whe nshe saw Jim. "Jim," she said and took off her reading glasses, "just who I was thinking of. Come here and give me a hand."
"Well, I could," Jim said, drawing the moment out, "or I could give you this." he said and pulled out the present.
Shron oohed and pushed herself up. "Give it here." she said. Jim handed it to her. "What is it?"
"Open it." Jim suggested.
There was a small flurry of paper followed by a delighted sound from Sharon. "Perfume," she squeeked, "I love perfume. What kind is it, it smells odd."
Jim shuffled his feet. "It's kind of homemade. Try some. I'll take you out to dinner later tonight at Kirsty's."
"That's so sweet." Sharon said. She tipped the bottle over, wetting her finger, and dabbed some on. "Now help me with my homework."
