New Story Start: Transformation Island

Unending BE - episode 1571

David and Rebecca were a happy young couple. Very happy, in fact. They were to be married within a month, and between David's job as an assistant to an executive in a manufacturing firm and the wealth of Rebecca's family, the two were set to live together happily as a couple. To celebrate their love and their upcoming marriage, David had rented a small boat, and the two were now buzzing about the Pacific, just within US territorial waters, and enjoying the sun.

At least, until this happened.

"I don't understand it," David said in exasperation. "The engine was working fine a second ago and now...it's stopped. It doesn't make sense."

"I don't think that's our only problem," Rebecca noted, pointing him towards another part of the helm. "Look at the compass; it's gone nuts."

David looked, and sure enough, the compass was indeed spinning wildly about.

"Remind me, we're in the Pacific, right?" Rebecca asked. "Then why is everything acting like we're in the Bermuda Triangle?"

"I wish I knew," David noted.

"Maybe you should try the radio?" Rebecca suggested.

"I did," David said. "Static." He sighed, and said, "I'm sorry, Becky. This is my fault."

"Your fault?" Rebecca asked. "This isn't your fault. You didn't know any of this would happen. Especially the compass thing." She looked out the window and said, "Hello, what's that?"

David looked out the windows and noticed the same thing; "It's an island. A big island. But I don't remember noticing one on the map."

"Well, maybe we went farther than we could've, or it's uncharted," Rebecca suggested.

"No, I made sure to check our heading and position every few minutes," David told her. "We should still be in US territorial waters, and the Coast Guard gave out the maps; if there were an island out here, they'd have it there."

"Well, it's getting closer," Rebecca pointed out as the boat approached the island. "Maybe someone will be on it, and they'll have some means of communicating with the outside world." David gave her a surprised look, and she shrugged and said, "Worth a try, right?"

"Well, we don't have much choice," David noted as the boat drifted to the island.

Within about an hour, the boat slowed to a halt on the beach, and the two climbed off onto the sand. David wore loose khaki shorts, diving shoes and a T-shirt, while Rebecca wore cut-off jeans and a tank top, her long red hair done back in a ponytail.

Before them, some several feet up the beach, was the beginnings of a forest, with a rough dirt path snaking through the trees.

"Well, we're going to need food, fresh water, and possibly shelter," David said. "Assuming there is someone on this island, they'll find us eventually. We can make camp in the boat for now, but beyond that, I'm not sure what to do." He turned to Rebecca and asked, "Any ideas?"

  1. "I think it might be a good idea to grab the emergency kits from the boat first, just in case," Rebecca suggested.
  2. "We should see about finding fresh water," Rebecca said.
  3. "We should see about finding food," Rebecca said.
  4. *"We should see about finding any sign of civilization on this island," Rebecca said. "It'll make finding everything else easier."
  5. "I say we look for shelter," Rebecca said.
  6. Rebecca was distracted by something else.
