"Allow me to explain," said a voice behind them.
They all whirled, and saw a middle-aged, dumpy-looking man.
"You've been put on the shelf, so to speak," he explained. "You're backstage at the BE AddVenture until some author decides to use you again. I'm your host, Dr. Sidney James Russell, here to explain to you the meta-reality of the situation."
"Uncle Sid!" cried the Cat of Justice, realizing who he was.
He looked at hir, puzzled. "Have we met?" he asked.
