Hi! Welcome to my tutorial! I'm happy you took the time to read this, and obviously want to learn how I do some of the things I do with pictures. Morphing is a fun pastime that will give you instant fame and recognition in the BE community. Well, okay it doesn't do that for most, but with a little practice and general knowledge of your tools you can oooh and ahhhh the shit out of a lot of folks.

Now I know you're probably anxious to just jump into morphing, but there is a lot to learn before you ever even open a pic up in whatever program you use. And that's where we have to start.

1. The Basics

Every good morph artist has to start somewhere. You're no different. The advantage you have on a lot of people is that you live years after morphing really started. The programs are better, the tools are better, the pictures are much more abundant than they ever were. So consider yourself lucky.

First things first, I'm going to outline the things I use when doing a morph. Then I'll tell you the advantage of them. This is a handy little checklist. While everything is optional, if you are going to get serious about working with photo's even as a hobby, you might as well attempt to get the best tools available. It will limit you a lot less in the end. So here's what I use.

Photoshop 6.0- The best damn photomanipulation software there is. The industry standard. The mother of them all. Now be aware, it's pricey as hell. But is it worth the money? Of course it is.

The things this program allows you to do are almost limitless. I started using photoshop back in the early 90s, switched to Corel Photopaint in the mid-90s, and ended the 90s by using JASC's Paint Shop Pro. Don't do what I did. I didn't return to photoshop until 2000. And I regret it greatly. While there are a lot of other programs out there, time and time again you are going to hear that photoshop can do something that another program can't do. If you can't afford Photoshop, well...... you can get it all over the web to be honest. I'm not going to tell you where or how. Consider being crafty as part of your training. If you REALLY want to do this, you'll find it somehow. And trust me, you'll want to get 6.0. It has a serious advantage over previous versions and you'll hear about that later. And no, that extra bar up at the top is not part of Photoshop. It's something I added in. We're not getting into that today.

Eye Candy 4000- Now we're getting into plug-ins. A real Photoshop nut will bitch at you for getting plug-ins. They will tell you that you don't need them because anything they can do, you can teach yourself to do using Photoshop. The difference is Plug-ins allow you to make some effects that would take forever for you to do by simply learning. It's a time saver. Eye Candy is my favorite and I will always have it. It allows you to do some great shit when it comes to effects. If anyone ever wondered how I did my logo, it was all Eye Candy. I just fed it a really generic pic and tweaked until I was happy.

But the real reason you want it is for making shadows. While I myself am now slowly weaning my away from using this, it still is great for a beginner. The tools are much easier to understand than the photoshop tools. But get Eye Candy 4000 or higher. The shadowlab tools is much better in the latest versions. But remember, if you can learn from using shadowlab and take that into photoshop you'll have greater control over the shadows you make in pics.

And that's it! That's all I use! And Eye Candy is totally optional! How sweet is that?

But there are many, many other great tools you can use. I suggest you take a look at other tutorials if you want to learn how to morph using other programs such as Goo, Paint Shop Pro or Painter. They all have benefits.
