Step 2 - Base Colours
Next, I add the base colours. For this I create a new layer called "Colour base" and colour as I would on paper. I don't like to use the fill tool here as it can be messy, for me it is easier to just colour with my pen. I make sure that the "Black lines" layer is on top of all the other layers for the moment and the next few stages so that the guide is always visable. Neatness is important in this stage, going outside the guide is not a problem, so long as the lines are consistant and remain in proportion. On this image I've only coloured the hair, skin and eyes. This is so that when I do the skin tones I can have more freedom to move and any later details can easily be added onto it such as the lips or nipples.
